Tealight Holders

Tealight holders are among those subtle helpers that can transform an ordinary room into a place of peace and harmony. Your choice affects not only appearance but also safety and practicality. That's why we've put together an overview of the key aspects to consider when selecting one.

How to Choose the Right Tealight Holder

Several factors come into play when choosing a holder. First, consider the material – glass, ceramic, metal, or wood each offer different light effects and durability. Glass holders diffuse light softly and romantically, while metal models create more pronounced shadows and reflect light upward. The size of the opening is also important – make sure the tealight fits snugly and won't tip over. Don't forget about the stability of the base, especially if you plan to place the holder in drafty areas or on uneven surfaces. For example, during an evening on the patio, you'll appreciate a heavier metal base that can withstand the wind.

Safety First

The holder should be made of non-flammable material and have sufficient height so the flame doesn't come into contact with surrounding objects. With metal and ceramic models, the risk of overheating is minimal, but we still recommend placing the holder on a heat-resistant surface. Glass holders should have a thicker base that doesn't overheat during prolonged candle burning. If you plan to use the holder near children or pets, choose models with a wider base and enclosed design to minimize the risk of burns.

Quality and Materials That Last

Investing in a quality holder pays off – it not only lasts longer but also serves more safely. Glass holders should be made of heat-resistant glass that won't crack under temperature changes. In practice, this means that with repeated use in an indoor space with fluctuating temperatures (like a bathroom), the glass will remain undamaged. Ceramic models, on the other hand, excel in their durability and variety of glazes – from glossy surfaces to matte, hand-painted patterns. Wooden holders add a natural touch to the interior but require more careful handling – choose those with a metal or glass inner liner so the wood doesn't come into direct contact with the flame. In our selection, we ensure every piece meets basic safety standards and is made from proven materials.

Tips for Inspiration and Arrangement

Tealight holders can be grouped together – varying heights and shapes create a dynamic visual effect. Try placing them on a tray with natural decorations like pinecones, dried flowers, or pebbles. For a romantic dinner, a single striking holder as a table centerpiece will suffice, while for a festive table, you can use a row of smaller holders in different colors. If you prefer a minimalist style, opt for simple geometric shapes in neutral colors – white, gray, or black. Remember that the candle itself can also be a decoration – scented tealights will perfume the room and enhance the experience. Glass holders with a colored tint create a soft colored light that changes the room's atmosphere. Explore our selection and choose the holder that completes your vision of a perfect home.

How to choose

When choosing a tealight holder, focus on the material, stability, and intended use. The following table will help you navigate the basic types and their suitability for different situations.

Use Case Material Target Audience
Romantic Dinner Glass Couples, atmosphere lovers
Everyday Decoration Ceramic Families, creative souls
Modern Interior Metal Minimalists, design enthusiasts
Natural Style Wood with liner Eco-style lovers
Outdoor Patio Metal with heavier base Gardeners, hosts

Before purchasing, check these important points:

  • Opening diameter – a standard tealight has a diameter of about 38 mm, but some holders are designed for smaller or larger candles.
  • Stability – the holder should not tip over easily; try placing it on a flat surface and giving it a gentle nudge.
  • Maintenance – glass and ceramic are easy to clean with a damp cloth, while wood requires dry wiping and regular oil treatment.
  • Safety distance from flammable materials – at least 30 cm from curtains, tablecloths, or books.
  • Ventilation – if the holder has no air intake openings, the flame may go out; choose models with adequate air circulation.

Important safety warning for candle holders and candle containers in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR)

This is a targeted safety warning for the proper and safe use of candle holders and candle containers — including tea light holders, pillar candle holders, and empty candle containers. Please read these instructions carefully before first use and keep them for the entire lifespan of the product.

Basic principles of safety and handling

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets: A candle holder with a burning candle is a source of open flame and hot surfaces. Ensure that children and pets do not have access to it. There is a risk of burns, tipping over, and fire.
  • Never leave a candle holder with a burning candle unattended: Always extinguish the candle before leaving the room or going to sleep.
  • Placement: Place the candle holder on a flat, stable, and non-flammable surface. Always place a non-flammable pad (ceramic plate, stone slab, metal tray) under the candle holder — this protects furniture from overheating and potential wax drips.
  • Distance from flammable materials: Maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm from curtains, textiles, flowers, books, and other flammable items.

Proper and safe use

  • Check before each use: Before inserting the candle, check the candle holder or container for cracks, chips, glaze damage, or other defects. Do not use a damaged candle holder — it may crack or break when heated.
  • Correct candle size: Only insert a candle of the appropriate size and type into the candle holder. The candle must fit securely and not extend beyond the edges of the candle holder. A candle that is too large may cause overheating, while one that is too small may tip over.
  • Hot surface — do not move during burning: The candle holder becomes significantly heated during the burning of the candle. Never move it while there is a burning candle or liquid wax inside. Allow the candle holder to cool completely before any handling (at least 30 minutes after extinguishing).
  • Thermal shock — risk of cracking: Glass and ceramic candle holders are sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not place a hot candle holder on a cold surface, do not pour cold water on it, and do not expose it to direct drafts. Thermal shock can cause cracking or breaking, posing a risk of injury and fire.
  • Tea lights in metal cases: The metal case of the tea light becomes very hot during burning. Ensure that the candle holder transfers heat evenly and does not lead to local overheating.
  • Pillar candles: For pillar candle holders, ensure that the holder has a sufficiently large plate or bowl to catch the dripping wax. Dripping wax can damage furniture surfaces and cause burns upon contact with skin.

Cleaning, maintenance, and storage

  • Removing wax: Always remove wax residues only after the candle holder has completely cooled down. Gently scrape off the hardened wax with a wooden or plastic spatula. Never use hot water on cold glass — there is a risk of breaking due to thermal shock.
  • Alternative cleaning method: Place the candle holder in the freezer for 1 – 2 hours — the wax will shrink and easily separate. Alternatively, pour hot water into the container and let the wax melt and float to the surface, but only if the container is at room temperature.
  • Cleaning agents: For general cleaning, use warm water with a mild detergent. Do not use aggressive chemicals, abrasive sponges, or steel wool that may damage the surface, glaze, or glass.
  • Storage: Store candle holders in a dry place, protected from impacts. Wrap glass and ceramic candle holders in soft material when storing to prevent chipping or breaking.

Specific health warnings

  • Risk of injury: In case of breakage or shattering of the candle holder, sharp shards may occur. Handle broken parts carefully, use gloves, and dispose of shards safely.
  • Burns: A hot candle holder can cause burns upon contact. If you come into contact with a hot surface, cool the affected area immediately under running cold water for at least 10 minutes. Seek medical attention for more serious burns.
  • Child safety: Glass and ceramic candle holders are fragile. If they break, sharp pieces pose a cutting hazard. Keep out of reach of small children.
  • Material composition: Candle holders may be made of glass, ceramic, metal, concrete, or combinations thereof. Check the product description in case of known sensitivity to any material.

Disposal

  • Undamaged candle holders and containers can be reused. If damaged (cracks, chips), withdraw the candle holder from use.
  • Dispose of glass candle holders in the glass container (after removing wax residues and any metal parts).
  • Ceramic candle holders are not recyclable like glass — dispose of them in general waste or according to local regulations.
  • Dispose of metal parts in the metal container.
  • Dispose of packaging materials (cardboard, paper, foil) in the appropriate containers for sorted waste.

Incidents and contact

  • In the event of an incident related to the use of the candle holder or candle container (cracking, breaking, burns, fire, etc.), stop using the product immediately. Keep the product and proof of purchase for processing the complaint.
